Question
I am trying to get access to a 128 bit wireless connection and as far as I can tell the wep i was given is in hex (it is 26 characters long). I tried typing it exactly as it was given to me but windows doesn't seem to recognize it. (it shows the same error message saying my network password needs to be so and so many letters long) To make things worse the following symbol is on the key: ø. My question is: What am I doing wrong? Is there a setting to input hex passwords? What should I do with the ø?
Answer
A 128-bit WEP key is almost always entered by users as a string of 26 Hexadecimal (Hex) characters (0-9 and A-F). Each character represents 4 bits of the key. 4 × 26 = 104 bits; adding the 24-bit IV brings us what we call a "128-bit WEP key".
The à character should not be there. Please ask again the adminstrator for the WEP key.
