Steps to Activate NetMeeting for the First Time
NetMeeting is installed with Windows XP. It is just not obvious. There are, by default, no Desktop or Start Menu shortcuts for it. Do these steps once on your computer before your first training using NetMeeting.
1. To activate NetMeeting, click Start and choose Run.
2. Remove any text from the the Open: box. Then enter the following command:
CONF
3. Click OK.
* After clicking OK, if it opens to a "wizard", then you need to do the rest of the steps below.
* However, if it opens to a long thin window that says "NetMeeting - Not in a call", then NetMeeting is already activated and configured by someone.
2. Click Next on the first setup screen.
3. Fill-in your personal information and click Next to continue.
4. Un-check the "Log on to a directory server..." box. Click Next to continue.
5. Select your connection speed. Click Next to continue.
6. You'll be prompted to create Desktop and/or Quick Launch bar icons. Make your choices. Click Next to continue.
7. Follow the instructions to setup your audio. If your computer does not have audio devices, proceed and click Next.
8. Click Finish when you are done with setting up the audio.
Perform the following steps to Configure NetMeeting
NetMeeting is still open, and has been activated.
1. To continue the set up of NetMeeting, click on Tools, Options.
2. Select the General tab and confirm your directory information.
3. Under the Directory Settings section, confirm that both choices are un-checked.
4. Skip the Security tab.
5. Select the Audio tab.
6. Un-check the 3 boxes. Participants will not be using the audio feature of NetMeeting for the training.
7. Select the Video tab.
8. Un-check both Automatically send video at the start of each call (it will be gray if you have none) and Automatically receive video at the start of each call.
9. Later, if you are getting poor results when viewing or receiving video, you can adjust the Video Quality and the Send image size from the Video tab.
10. Click on the OK button to save your options.
Note: If you see a message that tells you "You are not logged on to a directory server. Do you want to log on now?", you should click NO.
11. Close NetMeeting.
