I cannot get notebook to find IP address through a linksys hub. My desktop works fine.

Answer:

The IP address is set by you, manually or it is provided automatically by a DHCP Server. We suggest to talk with your network administrator to give you a valid IP address.

In most networks you can't add as many computers as you want and able to access Internet. The ISP Server need to authentificate the computer with a password or MAC address.
