10Base-T
A 10 Mbps Ethernet network implemented on twisted-pair cable with modular connectors. Uses pins 1 and 2, 3 and 6, in an 8 position modular plug / jack, typically called an RJ-45. Patch cables for 10BaseT Ethernet are usually pinned to the EIA / TIA 568A or 568B standard. This is the most popular type of Ethernet.
10Base-2
A 10 Mbps Ethernet implemented on thin RG58 coaxial cable, commonly known as "BNC Net," "Thin Ethernet," or "ThinNet." Uses BNC connectors.
10Base-FL
The implementation of the 802.3 standard designed to operate over fiber optic cable at 10 Megabits per second baseband.
100Base-TX
The IEEE Fast Ethernet standard for 100 Mbps Ethernet over category 5 UTP / STP.
100Base-FX
The IEEE Fast Ethernet standard for 100 Mbps Ethernet over fiber optic cabling.
1000Base-T
A specification for Gigabit Ethernet over copper wire (IEEE Standard 802.3ab). The standard defines 1 Gb/s data transfer over distances of up to 100 meters using four pairs of CAT-5 balanced copper cabling and a 5-level coding scheme.
1000Base-LX
A specification for Gigabit Ethernet over Fiber Optic cable (IEEE Standard 802.3z) at 1300nm wavelength.
1000Base-SX
A specification for Gigabit Ethernet over Fiber Optic cable (IEEE Standard 802.3z) at 850nm wavelength.
