Question Details:

I can get to web sites using bookmark icons in fire fox but if it has a search space I cannot enter any info even though the cursor is there. Sony new lap top with Vista; Zonealarm free on board. Some time later I can input www.xxx , ok to get to a web site; and then after a while not. New AVG free runnig in the background.

Your problem is a little weird, it is possible that your browser is infected or damaged.
