Why desktop icons are not responding?

Question Details:

Windows XP - Since running spy - bot some of my desktop shortcuts will not work. The message comes up - Windows cannot find this file - and then shows the web address of the site the shortcut should lead to. System restore will not work either. I have also recently installed Firefox which seemed to want to take over as my browser. I have tried to remove it using cc cleaner and windows control panel but it refuses to delete.

Answer:

Probably the .exe files associeted withe the shortcuts were deleted by the antivirus because it were infected. You need to delete the shortcuts and reinstall those application.

You can remove Firefox from Control Panel/ Add-Remove programs.

System restore could not work because it is not enabled or you don't have any restore points available.
