Why I can't open programs?

Question Details:

When I try to open most programs on my computer (Internet Explorer, paint, even disk cleanup and other programs that came with my computer) they close after a few seconds. There is no warning or anything. I found I can get online if I open it repeatedly quickly and eventually it stays open with a sign that says the operation needs to close (but when this happens it doesn''t close unless I click the sign).

I have run three virus scans, with AOL Safety and Security Center, which found nothing, and with BitDefender Total Security 2009 and AVG Anti-virus free 8.0, both of which found viruses and claimed to remove them. The problem didn't change. I also got advice to disable DEP, which I did and also got no results.

Answer:

It is possible that some important files from your Windows are damaged. We suggest to a Windows Repair. This would probably solve your problem.

You can find details on how to do that here.
