The computer tries to dial my isp many times every day. I tried disabling all automatic updates I could find. I disabled everything in the startup menu. I have chatted with HP online and they were no help, said it was the problem of my isp. The isp is just a dialup service, I use explorer. I called the isp and they could not help. I use mcafee anti virus software.

There are a lot of programs that you are not aware and are trying to connect to the internet. If you scanned your computer with the antivirus probably you are not infected with a virus which is trying to connect to the internet.

We suggest to install a firewall ( you could use a free one) which will tell you when a program will try to access the Internet.
